Here’s a simple and delicious Besan Halwa (Gram Flour Halwa) recipe that you can make at home. It’s rich, aromatic, and perfect for festivals or a cozy sweet craving.
🌸 Besan Halwa Recipe (Serves 4)
📝 Ingredients:
- Besan (gram flour) – 1 cup (preferably coarse for texture)
- Ghee – ½ cup (clarified butter)
- Sugar – ¾ to 1 cup (adjust to taste)
- Water – 1½ cups
- Cardamom powder – ½ tsp
- Nuts – 2 tbsp chopped (almonds, cashews, pistachios – optional)
- Raisins – 1 tbsp (optional)
👨🍳 Instructions:
1. Roast the Besan
- Heat ½ cup ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan.
- Add 1 cup besan and start roasting on low flame.
- Keep stirring continuously to avoid lumps and burning.
- Roast for 12–15 minutes, until the mixture turns golden brown and releases a nutty aroma.
(The ghee will separate slightly when it’s done.)
2. Prepare Sugar Syrup
- In a separate pan, boil 1½ cups water.
- Add ¾ to 1 cup sugar and stir until fully dissolved.
- Optionally, add cardamom powder and a few strands of saffron.
3. Combine
- Slowly pour the hot sugar syrup into the roasted besan while stirring continuously (careful, it may splutter!).
- Mix well and cook for another 5–7 minutes, stirring until the halwa thickens and leaves the sides of the pan.
4. Add Nuts & Serve
- Add chopped nuts and raisins, and mix well.
- Serve hot, garnished with extra nuts on top.
✅ Tips:
- Stir constantly while roasting to avoid raw taste.
- Adjust ghee and sugar to your liking.
- You can use milk instead of water for a richer version.
